The history of the railroad in Spooner is a long and interesting story.  The story is broken into two main parts:

If you ever played the game Monopoly and were intrigued by the thought of owning the railroads read this section to find out about how a group of people started their own railroad in the 1990's.  The beginning of the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad is the story of pursuing dreams and not letting obstacles get in your way.

The History of the Line
The railroad was first laid through the wilderness that became Spooner in 1879, and for the next century Spooner was an important division point.  At one time nearly 75% of the residents worked for the railroad and 22 passenger trains stopped here each day.  The History of the Line is the story of the railroad that lived, died, and was reborn here in Spooner.
